Japanese Knotweed Eradication Update
Updated: December 21, 2009
In September 2009 the Bucktail Watershed Association was able to treat approximately 15 acres of Japanese knotweed on 47 different properties in the upper reaches of the Driftwood Branch and its tributaries. Funding for the initial project work was obtained through grants from the USDA Forest Service and the Norfolk Southern settlement money distributed by the Sinnemahoning Stakeholders Committee.
Additional grant funds are available for the 2010 season and the eradication program will be expanded.
The Bucktail Watershed Association is a local nonprofit organization that works in cooperation with its partners to improve and protect the watershed communities within the Driftwood Branch and First Fork of the Sinnemahoning Creek. For more information regarding the upcoming meeting or involvement in the group, contact Jim Zoschg, Jr. at 814-486-0705.
